A rant directed in Wally's general direction last night:

I was up until 4 am hacking last night, tried sleeping but I couldn't

this stuff is just so fucking interesting

like how do you apply the maps we learned in ISDC [Udacity's intro to self-driving cars nanodegree] to the real world?

there we had two sets of matrices, what we thought the world looked like and where we thought we are, and each of those had a current and update matrix

if I have the beefy ARM Cortex M4 microcontroller with 192k of memory, I can fit all of one 220x220 grid of floats

so now I'm gathering papers on efficient grid representation techniques

a lot of shit from that class is making more and more sense but damn, I have to do work [e.g. $dayjob]

and I have a bunch of other real-world stuff to do

but a large part of me just wants to do this

and this is why I stay up until 4 am working on a robot only to get up at 7:30 to go to work and do things I'm not particularly motivated for

Which is kind of where I'm at now. It's been a lot of fun thinking through hard problems like how to keep track of where you think you are but you don't really have a ton of memory to work with. I need to follow up with a post about the stuff I'm learning.
